Key Note – Emmanuel Peyrezabes (rugby Nederland)

The influence of Data Analytics in Rugby vs Team Performance

Sport performance today, and especially rugby, has been heavily influenced by the input of data: GPS units, player monitoring, training load, etc. All these parameters are analysed, processed and implemented on a daily basis. Rugby unions and clubs have to invest in both material and human resources. Nowadays, not even one high performance program runs without a specialised team of scientists, experts and data analysts. In this talk Emmanuel will keep you a sneak peek in his work as Head of Performance at Rugby Nederland:

a. How do we collect/analyse the data and how does the data influence the decision making?
b. How has it improved team and players’ performance?
c. What are the possibilities and improvements for the near future?

From an outsider’s perspective, he will give you an insight in athletes’ preparation, but also show how much sports has been influenced by the input of data analyses. He hopes to inspire his audience with new ideas and help them find a way to improve their programs and departments.

About Emmanuel Peyrezabes

Emmanuel has always been interested in sport performance; he finished his Bachelor in Sport Science and Master in Mental Preparation and Strength & Conditioning, while playing professional rugby. It wasn’t enough, so he continued with obtaining several coaching diplomas and a lifeguard license. This last license resulted in spending the last seven summers in the South of France.
He was lucky enough – thanks to his wife – to travel around the world after his professional career and get involved with different programs in Australia, New Zealand and with the Portugal Men’s 7s team at the World Series. Today he is involved with the Dutch Rugby Union, leading the Performance Department, while continuing to travel to rugby countries to keep learning and meeting new people. He believes in sharing knowledge; talking to coaches from around the globe has helped him a lot to develop as a coach and as an individual. Those experiences helped him improve his programs and get better results for his athletes.
